Guys, this blog is just moving way too fast for me. Could you all slow it down just a little? :P

Challenge #4 - Movement

Helloo... I finally have found something to post.

First photo, was taken at Palm Beach by the rock pool. I've always wanted to take a photo of a surfer in action. Next time it will be a closer shot. This photo has been cropped.

Camera: Canon EOS 1DII
Lens: EF70-200 f/4
F stop: f/6.3
Exposure: 1/500
ISO 200
Focal Length: 200mm

With this shot, I was testing a new Neutral Density filter I purchased at the time. Time of shot was around 6pm with still plenty of light during summer time. The filter blocked out most of the light, allowing the shutter to remain open for longer period without overexposing the shot.

Camera: Canon EOS 1DII
Lens: EF17-40 f/4
F stop: f/16
Exposure: 91.0 secs (with remote)
ISO 50
Focal Length: 17mm
Filter: NDX400 (blocks out the light)-

I managed to get this shot with the baby right before her father picked her up and carried her away. Shutter Speed automatically adjusted from 1/60 to 1/50 just as I hit the button, however, still quite a clear shot. Camera was set to aperture priority mode.

Challenge #4 - Movement

This is a creative challenge. The aim of the challenge is to a) capture movement and b) freeze movement by experimenting with shutter speeds. Therefore, you will need to post at least 2 photos. The subject of these photos can be anything you choose, as long as it is moving.

Post the photo to this blog and provide details of the equipment used eg camera (inc shutter speed and aperture size used), lens, flash etc. Provide a short commentary about the photo

The challenge closes 22nd June.

Challenge #3 - Container Trailers

uniform adj \ˈyü-nə-ˌfȯrm\ having always the same form, manner, or degree

Ok, here is my first interpretation of something uniform, the picture consists of a group of container trailers that can be found at any good airport.

Camera: Canon EOS 450D
F Stop: f/5.6
Exposure: 1/100 sec
ISO: 400
Focal Length: 79mm
Lens: EFS 17-85mm

This challenge was particularly difficult for me because it is so general. I took my camera to the Sydney domestic airport figuring that I should be able to snap something uniform. There was plenty of choice but time was not on my side - tho I did like this one.

Challenge #3 - Uniform

Here is challenge number three, rather than a technical challenge it is more of a creative challenge. I have left it open to interpretation. This challenge could be satisfied by a uniform composition or include someone wearing a uniform, eg Fire Fighter or Flight Attendant, or something totally different. All you need to do is justify it :)

So as usual
  • Upload the photo to this blog and provide details of the equipment used eg camera (inc shutter speed and aperture size used), lens, flash etc.
  • Provide a short commentary about the photo
The challenge closes 15th June - my preference is to go from Wednesday to Wednesday but we were a bit late on this one.
